Over the next couple of weeks we are addressing two significant issues facing our society.
This Sunday we are thinking though Domestic and Family Violence. The Bible is not reticent in speaking about this subject. It contains numerous accounts which make public the horror of what is done in private, even by family members. There is no more shocking story in the Bible than the rape of Tamar in 2 Samuel 13. It's a story of abuse within a family who claimed to worship the true God. I have asked Steph Leung, a student minister at church, to help me teach on this topic. I hope you can be there.
Secondly, on Wednesday September 13 at 6.45pm, we will be gathering as a church to think together about how we ought to respond to the upcoming postal plebiscite on marriage. I know you're probably thinking, "no, not more fuel on the fire of this divisive subject." I feel the same! And yet, precisely because there is so much talk with so little love and wisdom in our society, I feel we need to gather to think Biblically as Christians who are called to love God and their neighbour.
Looking forward to addressing these two significant issues with you over the coming weeks.
