What is Bread of Life?

Every Sunday we provide food, friendship and hope for those on the margins in our city. For the past 25 years St Michael’s Surry Hills, and now Vine Church, has provided almost 50,000 meals to people doing it tough.

The name ‘Bread of Life’ serves to highlight our desire not just to provide physical food, but to share eternal food through the gospel. We want those involved to know that we love and serve because God first loved us and that nothing is better or more important than the life, love and freedom found in Jesus, the Bread of Life. Similarly, the word ‘companion’ is used because we believe people should be defined by their relationships not their circumstances.

Lloyd Steadson, is employed by Vine Church as the Director of Bread of Life, to lead and facilitate Sunday mornings. All the other team members are volunteers. Vine Church is indebted to the volunteers teams that partner with us from Village Church Annandale, Scots Church SydneySt Michael’s Vaucluse and St Catherine’s School Waverley who generously serve each month.

Each year we run Blanket Surry Hills with Love to provide for the physical needs of our companions.

During all three services at Vine Church, on 2nd June, there will be a special segment to focus in on Bread of Life. It’s a time to stop and celebrate all that God is doing through the ministry of Bread of Life. We’ll here stories about companions and volunteers, give thanks, pray and have the opportunity to partner financially with the work of Bread of Life.

Every one is welcome to join us for church this day. Our service times are 9.15am with Vine Kids + Youth, 11am and 4.30pm

Donating to the charitable activities of Vine Church is a great way to contribute to the gospel, whilst also boosting your tax return. A tax deductible gift or donation will reduce your taxable income, resulting in a higher refund on tax paid throughout the year or a reduced ATO debt when you complete your tax return.

Vine Church has the status of a deductible gift recipient (DGR) for our Foundation Activities: Scholarships, Care fund, Connect Building Renewal and Bread of Life.

For more information, please contact our senior pastor or wardens.

To ensure Bread of Life happens each week and is done well, Vine Church employees Lloyd Steadson to oversee this ministry. His salary is covered by the generosity of your financial gifts, as well as the purchase of additional resources and equipment needed to pull off breakfast and breakie church each week.

If you are not a Christian we don’t expect you to give to the work of our church ministries. We’re excited you are connecting with us and interested in bringing warmth to locals doing it touch in the City of Sydney. We really appreciate your support with physical donations. There is no obligation to give financially, but you are free to do so if you’d like to partner with us and help fund the weekly work of Bread of Life.

If you are a Christian, have a look at the FAQs on our Give page to help you work out why you should give and how you can be generously investing in gospel initiatives.
