We all need a friend who opens the Bible with us, prays with us, asks good questions, reminds us of how good Jesus is, and picks us up when we doubt — and we need to be that friend for others too.  No matter who you are or what your experience is, we want to help you and a friend explore what the Bible says about Jesus, together.
Why read the Bible one-to-one?​
Reading the Bible one-to-one creates space to slow down, ask honest questions, and work out what it looks like to follow Jesus in everyday life. It’s a place to be known, to be encouraged, and to be gently challenged as God’s word shapes us.
God grows his people through his Word. When the Bible is opened side by side, lives are shaped, faith is strengthened, and people encounter the living Lord Jesus in the Scriptures.
No matter who you are or what your experience is, we want to help you and a friend explore what the Bible says about Jesus, together.
In 2026 at Vine Church, we want to equip a group of 30 people whose ministry is side by side, particularly ministering to individuals, helping them walk as disciples of Jesus, equipping and empowering them for the Christian life.

Start reading the Bible with someone
If you’re not sure who to read the Bible one-to-one with, get in touch. We’d love to help connect you with someone who’ll open the Scriptures with you, pray with you, and walk alongside you.
What does a 1:1 look like?
Most meetups are 1–2 hours and are simple and relaxed:
- A quick catch-up
- Read a short Bible passage
(usually working your way through a book of the Bible) - A handful of good questions
- Pray together (simple is fine)
Meetings can be weekly or fortnightly, and they don’t need to be open-ended. Some people meet for a few weeks, others for a term or a year.
Often, once a season finishes, people go on to walk alongside someone else in the same way.

No. If you’re exploring Jesus and want to read the Bible with someone, you’re welcome. A great place to start reading the bible with someone if you’re new to Christianity is one of the gospels/biographies of Jesus’ life.Â
It complements Community Groups. While Community Groups help us grow together, reading the bible one-to-one is more personal and focused on helping an individual grow.
Often, the best person to read the Bible with is someone from your Community Group.Â
You won’t be the first person to feel that. It’s totally normal.
It takes time to get to know someone and to feel comfortable opening up.
You don’t need the right words, a perfect life, brilliant bible knowledge to read the bible one-to-one, just a willingness to show up and open God’s Word together.
In most cases, we encourage people to read the Bible with someone of the same gender, perhaps who you are in Community Group with. This helps create a space that’s wise, comfortable, and focused on growing as Christians.Â
In most cases, we encourage people to read the Bible with someone of the same gender. This follows a biblical pattern of mature believers walking alongside others to help them grow. Titus 2 highlights older women teaching younger women, and elsewhere we see men investing in men (2 Timothy 2:2).
There can be exceptions — for example, within families or marriages. We’re always happy to help with finding you someone to discpile you, if you’re unsure.
